TAVIRA

«Esta vila da minha infância é afinal uma cidade estrangeira. Sou forasteiro, tourist, transeunte». Nascido em Tavira, Álvaro de Campos – um dos muitos alter egos de Fernando Pessoa – escreveu estes versos sobre a pequena cidade. Como ele, e depois de todas as viagens que fizemos, às vezes sentimo-nos turistas no sítio onde crescemos e aprendemos a surfar.

A primeira parte deste vídeo reflecte isso mesmo: é um olhar turístico sobre a nossa cidade. Na segunda parte, juntámos as melhores manobras das últimas surfadas na ilha de Tavira. Esperamos que gostem.

"This childhood town is after all a foreign city. I’m an outsider, a tourist, a passer-by".  Born in Tavira, the Portuguese poet Álvaro de Campos – Fernando Pessoa’s one of many alter egos – once wrote about the small city. Like him, and after all the travelling we’ve done, sometimes we’re tourists in the place where we were raised and learned how to surf.

Nómad-a

Conhecemos o Raúl Cabrera em Novembro passado, durante a última viagem que fizemos a Marrocos. Revemo-nos muito na sua vontade de sair, descobrir outras ondas e surfar com outras pessoas. Por isso, aceitámos logo o convite para participar numa versão mais longa deste vídeo, que o Raúl conta apresentar em vários festivais de filmes de surf.

Estejam atentos à estreia de Nómad-a num festival perto da vossa praia.

We met Raúl Cabrera last November in Morocco. His will to go after different waves and meet other surfers around the world resembles a lot with ours. For that, we instantly agreed to be apart of a longer version of the video above, a version that Raúl expects to present at various surf film festivals.

O Loris –, surfista local de Tavira (fato vermelho) e também editor deste vídeo – chamou-lhe  "Um Dia Mau". Nós vamos chamar-lhe um dia normal.

No inverno, Tavira oferece habitualmente este tipo de condições, com ventos onshore e ondas aos saltos que quebram por todo o lado. Tentamos sempre aproveitar da melhor maneira possível, porque na costa sul não costumamos ter ondas muitas vezes. Mas, quer seja inverno ou verão, quem acaba por tirar maior partido destes dias são mesmo os pescadores…

Loris, the local surfer in red and also editor of this video, called it “A Bad Day”. Well, we’ll just call it a regular day. 

At our home break in Tavira, winter delivers this kind of conditions, with onshore winds and bumpy waves breaking all over the place. We try to enjoy it the best we can, since the south coast of Portugal is usually flat. Whether it’s winter or summertime, fisherman are the ones that always end up taking the most out of these days…

Weekend Training

Durante a primeira semana deste mês, estivemos em Sagres a testar as novas quilhas FCS. Este vídeo mostra-vos as manobras de um dia em que passámos 4 horas seguidas na água, com esquerdas longas e direitas bem divertidas.

During April’s first week, we were in Sagres testing FCS’s new fins. This video is all about long lefts and fun rights on a 4 hours straight surf session.

As you can see on the video above, our little sister Luna took charge of the draw and Pedro Gonçalves came out as the lucky one.
